Precipitation and the Enhanced Hydrological Cycle

In Precipitation and the Enhanced Hydrological Cycle, Dr. David Legates of the University of Delaware examines claims that climate change will generate additional precipitation. Legates finds that “biases and errors in precipitation measurements make it difficult to determine” whether predictions of increased precipitation have actually occurred. He further challenges assertions that more extreme weather events, such as floods and droughts, will become more common in a warmer world. Such predictions are based on computer simulations, which poorly account for precipitation, as Legates documents, making it difficult to accept their findings as more than just a possibility.
