Iranian Cruise Missiles Off American Shores

American news sources have widely reported on a recent article in Iran’s state-run Islamic Republic News Agency in which Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari claimed that Iran plans to send ships to the Atlantic sea borders of the United States in retaliation for the U.S. naval presence in the Persian Gulf. This report was amplified by Rear Admiral Ali Fadavi, who said that a proposed military hotline between the U.S. and Iran was unnecessary, since “[w]hen we go to the Gulf of Mexico, we will establish direct communication with them.” The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Navy commander also indicated that Iranian ships might be sent near U.S. waters.
