  • A teaching credential from the State of California
  • Priority hiring at one of our Partner Schools and 1:1 support as you engage in interviews and hiring processes

Resident Placement

  • MS_Icon_Orange

The Marshall Teacher Residency began in 2014 to develop powerful teachers across the San Francisco Bay Area. Today, we serve regions across California, including the San Francisco Bay Area, Sacramento, Fresno, and Los Angeles. We partner with public schools that align with our values and goals to develop student-centered, anti-racist classrooms.

During the application process, we collect your preferences on both credential area and school site placement. School site placements are finalized in May and June, after all incoming Residents are enrolled, and are dependent on availability of high quality Cooperating Teachers.

We partner with schools and districts in regions across the state of California:

    • Bay Area, including Santa Clara County, San Mateo County, Contra Costa County, and San Francisco County*
    • Los Angeles, including Los Angeles County and Orange County
    • Limited availability in Sacramento and Fresno

Learn more about our partner schools and districts below.

*This year, we are prioritizing candidates who are from or live in the San Francisco Bay Area. While our partner schools are generally the same year over year, the availability of placements at each partner school may change from year to year.  We encourage Residents to be flexible and open — all of our partner schools are wonderful places to learn!

California Partner Schools

Schools choose to partner with us because they care deeply about diversifying their teaching staff and supporting the training and development of new teachers. School partners agree to host residents in their classrooms for the full residency year, so that Residents can learn from experienced teachers and have hands-on teaching practice. At the end of the residency year, school partners prioritize hiring our Residents for their open teaching roles.
